Time management, OpenClaw, cherry blossoms, and more
We had a lot asks this week, which is rare and fun.
Asks
Ordered by question, with links where possible.
Q: What's the whole OpenAI vs Anthropic vs DoD thing?
There's no way for me to recap it here and it's going to continually change anyways. For now, a couple of articles:
- The Verge: "How OpenAI caved to the Pentagon on AI surveillance" (Apple News link)
- Vox: "The AI industry's civil war" (Apple News link)
Q: How to implement AI in development so that it speeds up development.
I had to table this one just because we can all talk it about it forever.
But since I have the bully pulpit as the author of this post, I'll just say that speed may not be what you gain from using AI in development. Instead, seek depth.
Q: Any good time management tips?
A bunch, as it turns out. We had a good discussion about the value of time and the role of money as a store for time.
But here are some links to concepts and/or apps that were recommended:
- MITs (Most Important Tasks): pick the tasks you most want or need to get done today
- CheckYourList: a super simple, no-pressure app to track routines so you don't need to re-remember them each day (this one is a life-saver for me)
- Pomodoro: break work into timed intervals (Hacker News loves pomodoros)
- Foqos: physically block phone distractions with NFCs.
- Quitter: automatically hide or quit apps after periods of inactivity (I use it for Slack and Discord)
Q: Cherry blossom viewing spots?
We sort of surprisingly didn't have a lot of answers. Maybe that's just because there are so many places.
These did come up:
- Osaka Castle park
- Keage incline tracks
The park near Heian shrine is a good one as well.
Picks/Gives
- Hunyuan3D-2 on GitHub: a large-scale 3D synthesis system for generating high-resolution textured 3D assets
- OpenClaw: installable AI bot/agent
- "Putting OpenClaw on a Raspberry Pi" on Mere Mortal Dev (it meeee)
